Xtreme Short Track Contest – Season 2

19 11 2007

Alright, we’re now ready to get the second season of the XSTC going. What does that mean? It means tht you can now submit tracks to the contest!

For those of you who didn’t participate in the first season, the Xtreme Short Track Contest is all about building cool, innovative and entertaining TrackMania United tracks. The catch? The tracks must be no longer than 15 seconds long! (15.99 is the maximum author time allowed.)

Here’s all you need to know to get started:

  1. There are three groups: Original (Desert, Rally & Alpine), Sunrise (Island, Bay & Coast) and Nations (Stadium). You may enter max one track per group. Please also note that the groups are a division of the TMU environments, not the spearate games (this is a United only contest).
  2. A season lasts two weeks and is divided as follows: week 1 – you may submit tracks, week 2: judges rate the tracks. Please also remember that the three groups are judged separately – for example, Stadium tracks are not compared to Alpine tracks.
  3. There are certain rules tracks must follow (see below), or they’ll be disqualified.

To enter the contest, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Create one or several tracks (max one/group)
  2. Make sure your track(s) meet the requirements below.
  3. Upload the track(s) to TMX.
  4. Copy/paste the link(s) to your track(s) and send them to the contest using the contact page.

DEADLINE: Sunday, 25th of November.

The rules tracks must follow include the following:

  • No track may have an author time longer than 15.99 seconds.
  • Tracks must be named “TrackName (XSTC)”, where “TrackName” of course is the actual name of the track. Example: “DirtMania (XSTC)”
  • Tracks must first be uploaded to TMX in order to enter the contest.
  • Race tracks only. No Stunt or Puzzle mode, and no pure PF tracks.

Other than that, there are no limitations to the style of your tracks, but if you read the section about judging on the Detailed Rules page, you’ll find that there’s extra weight on well made design (smoothness, etc.) and innovation.

All I can say now is good luck, and I hope we’ll get to see a lot of wonderful tracks, just as we did in season one 😀

Second Round Closing In!

19 11 2007

Cool, I see the Extreme MiniTrack Contest is on the main page in-game, and that this website is mentioned as well. That puts extra preassure on me getting the second round up and running.

So whether you’re new to this site or have visited it before, I want you to know that the first round (not active here, but at TMX) is soon finished, and that the second round (to be hosted here on this site) is going to start very soon.

Keep visiting this site and I’ll keep you informed 😉

Website Announced!

10 11 2007

Today I’ve announced this website at the TMX forums. The first round, hosted at TMX and not here, will still finish before the second round is started at this new website. However, by announcing the website in advance and letting people get to know it I hope people will already know what it’s all about when the second round actually starts.

Here’s a brief description on how the contest will work from now on:

  • Contest renamedfrom “Extreme MiniTrack Contest” (EMTC) to “Xtreme Short Track Contest” (XSTC)
  • Regular rounds, called “Seasons” – twice a month (first week of a season is for building/submitting tracks, second week is for judging)
  • Tracks: Max 15 seconds long – thus the name “Short Track”
  • Rule on how to name the tracks(“XSTC – TrackName”, where TrackName is the unique name you want to give the track) – this should make tracks easier to find at TMX and ensure that they’ve been built for the contest specifically
  • Three groups to win, based on environment: Original (Desert, Rally & Alpine), Sunrise (island, Bay & Coast) and Nations (Stadium). Additionally there’s a combined winner for each round (the overall best track)
  • Occasional themes and special rules – some of the seasons may have specific limitations or themes to build on (but not always), or unique secondary groups to win (for example “Best Name” or “Most innovative”)

Feel free to discuss the rules by commenting this post. For example, is the rule of tracks starting with “XSTC – ” a good or a bad rule?

Please keep in mind though that the website is still under construction and that rules and details may change… Now is your time to have your say 😉

Welcome to the Xtreme Short-Track Contest!

5 11 2007

Welcome to XtremeSTC.wordpress.com. This website is a contest website for the game TrackMania United, where you build tracks that are only 15 seconds or less in length.

At the moment, the website is under construction, but I hope to have it up and running soon 😀
